I have been teaching piano off and on for twenty-five years. My specialty is transcribing pieces that the student has specifically requested. For example, I have taught keyboard players in rock, pop, funk, or cover bands, how to play difficult piano or organ solos, note-for-note. I have also taught jazz pianists how to play pieces by Herbie Hancock, Oscar Peterson, Dave Grusin, Brian Culbertson, Jeff Lorber, Ray Bryant, etc. If a student shows an interest in a particular piece, I will transcribe it to sheet music, and then show him/her how to play the exact note-for-note version, with an emphasis on capturing the feel and technique of the original artist.
This type of teaching is geared towards high intermediate to advanced students, and would not be well suited for beginners or advanced beginners.
