When I meet a new student, I like to take a little time to get to know the student and the family. I like to hear a little more about their musical background and goals, wishes, desires, and dreams. I like to see what they are able to do (especially if they have had prior musical experience). I will make recommendations for books based on the student's level. If a student does not yet have a piano or keyboard (or even violin), I will bring one to try out. I will then make recommendations for purchasing an instrument. I want to have the student and family feel comfortable and confident that they are making the right decisions.

I have a Bachelors from Texas A&M University and a Masters from Georgia Tech. I have a deep love of music stemming from childhood. I have played piano since a young child, and the violin since my youth, and was Concertmaster at Clear Brook High in Friendswood, TX and went on to play in the Baylor University Symphony Orchestra. I have played in various church groups and orchestras.

I am currently a piano/keyboard teacher with FineArtsMatter and teach the after-school KidzKeys classes in elementary schools in the Fulton County School District in the Johns Creek area. I also teach in-home private lessons for students throughout the greater Atlanta area. Previously, I was Music Teacher and Piano Accompanist for Roswell First Baptist Church's Preschool and Kindergarten where I taught separate music classes specialized for children in 5 age groups (ages 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) and led the Christmas and seasonal musical presentations for all age groups. There I also developed "Music Club" and developed and taught the curriculum and program for Beginner Recorder for the Pre-First class (ages 6-7). I greatly enjoy working with children and seeing them grow in their musical appreciation and talents.

My standard pricing for weekly lessons

$35 for 1/2 hour lesson

$50 for 3/4 hour lesson

$65 for 1 hour lesson

I am a natural teacher, and have been teaching children in various settings and capacities for a long time (I am talking decades)! When my young son was able to start music lessons, that further developed my passion for teaching music. I love to impart what I can to others. It gives me great joy.

I have taught all ages of students from preschool (ages 2 - 5), through elementary (ages 5-12), through middle school (ages 12-14), and high school (ages 14-18), as well as adult. I adapt my teaching style and methods accordingly.

I have many students who are beginners, some who are intermediate, and some who are more advanced. As a teacher, I have the ability to be flexible with all skill levels.

I also have taught some students with special needs, and some who are on the Autism spectrum. It is amazing what we have accomplished.

Recently, my young son who is in elementary school was able to play the full "Sonatina, Op. 36, No. 3" by Clementi. He played all 3 movements by memory. I was so proud of him. My students know I am so proud of them for achieving major goals and for working through challenges.

I would say pray for a good teacher, and when you find one, keep them for sure! Good teachers are hard to come by. They are a precious gem! Good teachers also know when they are good. You can also tell by the progress you make over time. Be encouraged that you now have help in achieving your goals. Your teacher is there for you and desires your success!

Do not hesitate to ask questions with your teacher! That is what we are here for. Do not think that a question is silly or not important. There is always something to be learned. If there are special needs, please do not hesitate to share, so that the teacher may try to meet your needs.
