Orphan Pianos
About
Enjoying the process of music-making is essential to my lessons. We will laugh and play and sing together. I've been teaching for 20+ years, and I have enjoyed every minute. Come play with me!
In addition to once weekly private lessons, I also offer once monthly group lessons. Students in my studio have several adjudication opportunities throughout the year as well as several performance opportunities.

Everything! Watching students grow and change, and introducing them to the songs and composers I adore is extremely fulfilling. I want to show them the world!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first lesson is an evaluation of the student's needs. Every student is different, and I will determine our goals and plans in that very first meeting.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Bachelor of Music from Berry College in Rome, GA. I sang with theAtlanta Symphony Orchestra for two seasons. I wrote songs and performed in several rock bands throughout the years. As an active member of the Cobb County Music Teachers Association I continue my education with monthly seminars from other local industry leaders.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do not charge a per-lesson fee. I charge a monthly tuition of $100 whether the month has five weeks or three. I follow the school calendar, so weeks without school are weeks without lessons with the exception of teacher workdays and sometimes weather emergencies. I have a free group lesson every month for anyone who feels like they need extra time with me or just a social or performance outlet with music-minded friends.
How did you get started teaching?
I have known since I was small that I wanted to teach music. It is the only interest that has stuck with me throughout my life. I began teaching in music stores and lesson studios belonging to other music teachers, but after about 12 years decided I could branch out on my own and start my own business.
What types of students have you worked with?
i work with students of all ages and all styles. Children, grandparents, teenagers, and everything in between. Some want to sing opera, some want to sing jazz, some want to be classically trained pianists, and some want to compose EDM. I love meeting interesting people, and I'm up for anything!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
At my last group lesson a set of 8-year-old twins played a duet they made up themselves to the tune of Old MacDonald. They were adorable!
This last weekend I took several teenage students to Berry College for a concert in a castle. We had a great time eating together and playing with horses, too! Field trips are the best!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find a full-time teacher who is passionate about music. Anyone who is teaching for extra income is not invested in your success.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How and how often will I practice? Do I have the time to invest in a discipline that requires attention every day? Am I willing and able to do what it takes to be involved and present in the music I create?
