About
I have a BA in music, am a professional cellist and vocalist, with bands, weddings, and in studios. I am also a piano teacher, children's entertainer, songwriter and educator. My passion is to help students (children and adults), mainly in the beginner range with foundational skills necessary for a successful and life long musical journey. This includes basics of rhythm and pitch, reading music and the mechanics of playing properly ... while ALSO bringing an element of fun and creativity!!!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
discuss with them via phone or email their goals (or their child's), level, location, rate and what they are looking for in a teacher. Set up an 'trial' lesson to see if it will be a good fit.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Bachelors of Arts, Music, Western Michigan University
Much experience as a professional musician, mainly non-classical, but using strong foundations to successfully perform in a wide variety of settings.
Many years of experience teaching music to children and adult beginner students.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching after I had my children and wanted to have a flexible schedule. After several years, I have continued to love it!
What types of students have you worked with?
I specialize in beginners because I have a strong background in working in Early Childhood Education and teaching music to very young children, focusing on rhythm and pitch. I also love working with adult beginners who want to find out with no pressure if playing piano or cello are something they love! I also like working with students to find creativity and their 'ear'!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Both my young adult children are singer songwriters... I love hearing their music and attending their live events!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Consider your goals: If you are looking to make a career in classical music or are a parent desiring to get your child into Juliard, I may not be the teacher for you! But if you want to explore playing an instrument, learn music basics and see some joy in learning music, join me!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
time, fees, method, why you want to learn, what are your goals for yourself/your child musically.
