Focal Point Piano Lessons
About
I am an Atlanta native full-time musician and piano teacher with a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance.
I'm classically trained, but my teaching philosophy is a unique one: I believe that you should only try to learn as much as it excited you to learn, and by setting small, reasonable goals and achieving them at your own pace, with a little bit of push and encouragement, anyone can stay motivated long enough to be surprised by the progress they're able to make!
Adding to that the diversity of additional learning tools, apps, other materials and games (yes for adults as well as children) that I'm able to provide - you might find yourself having more fun than you expected while learning piano.
Finally, I come to every new student with an understanding that everyone has their own goals with learning the piano. In my over 10 years of teaching so far, I've been in a variety of different teaching situations, and I've learned how to accommodate a wide variety of specific needs, preferences, and goals that students can have. So no matter what your musical or learning style is, I can most likely tailor the lesson to fit you!
I enjoy the expression on people's faces when they realize they've accomplished what they thought they couldn't. I enjoy watching someone actually demonstrate what they've learned after I've taught them - it's a beautiful sight to behold.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I generally give the new student an assessment lesson where I allow them to show me the extent of their skill by playing me a song or a scale and answering quiz-like questions regarding notes and music.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 25 years of experience playing the piano, about 10 years experience teaching my own piano students, with a bachelors degree in music performance.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I generally charge $45 for an hour or 45 min., and $40 for a 30 min. lesson.
I no longer travel to students, I teach exclusively on-line and in my studio in Smyrna
How did you get started teaching?
While in school majoring in music performance, several of my classmates, parents an relatives of colleagues, and other associates I knew started asking me for piano lessons for themselves and sometimes their kids.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all ages: Many young students as young as 5 years old up to high school age; and several adult students, from college age up to 40 and 50 year old beginners with professional careers outside of music.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher that can already do what you want to learn how to do. Watch videos. Listen to recordings. Talk to them on the phone beforehand. Read bios and other information about them.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What is my goal in taking lessons? Do I just want to learn a favorite song, a style of playing, or do I want to reach a professional level of proficiency in reading music as well as playing?
2. How much time am I willing or able to dedicate to focused practice outside of the lesson?
3. What is my schedule and how flexible is it?
