About

I have been teaching piano since I was a freshman in college, majoring in Music Education at the University of Kentucky, more than 30 years ago. I love teaching and seeing my students progress in their abilities to play piano and grow to love it as I do. My lessons are fun and my students work hard to learn. Our recitals are exciting and everyone enjoys the opportunities to perform. Because it is the basis of learning music (and because I love it as well) lessons are traditional and based on classical training as well as popular and jazz and other styles that we (the students and I) enjoy. Since 2001 I have taught my piano lessons in a studio at Mount Paran Church.

My daughter has had a few piano teachers in the past and Miss Claudette is the best. She is very patient and always teaches my daughter new material. She built a relationship with my daughter, and maintains good communication to inform me of how her lessons are going. She understands life is busy and is very flexible with scheduling. We enjoy every lesson.

Miss Claudette has given lessons to my child for a few years. She has done an excellent job teaching him the basics and helping him build his confidence to become an excellent piano player.
In addition to Miss Claudette being an excellent teacher, she is also very patient and accommodating. She is usually able to adjust her schedule if we have a scheduling conflict. She was also very helpful when my son requested to play an event. She was able to help him organize a small performance with just a few weeks notice. We were very proud of his performance.
We could go to an instructor closer to home, but we really enjoy Miss Claudette and would highly recommend her.

Miss Claudette did a great job adapting her teaching style and materials to my son’s level. This was really key in keeping him engaged. She made learning fun and the books she started him with were perfect for his kindergarten age. She continues to work with him 3 years later and he still looks forward to piano lessons, which is a miracle in itself.

Claudette is fabulous! Two of my children have been under Claudette’s tutelage for nearly 5 years now. I highly recommend Claudette, is she a fantastic piano teacher who adapts her style to keep students engaged; she is encouraging and firm at the same time. I really appreciate that she also works with students on overall music knowledge of classical pieces and composers. During COVID Claudette quickly adapted to video sessions - I didn’t have high expectations of how effective they’d be, but both children continued to really progress and looked forward to the weekly interaction.

    Frequently asked questions

I teach students ages 5 years old through adult.  I find out their former involvement in music and what are their interests in music.  I introduce them to the piano by seeing that they recognize the pattern of keys. Next I introduce them to the concept of high and low in pitch.  Then I introduce them to the appropriate book for their study of piano.  Proceeding from there I encourage them with the extreme importance of daily practice.

I have a degree in Music Education, emphasis in piano,  from the University of Kentucky.  I attend piano workshops and continue to research music and piano teaching.  Of the utmost importance is my experience in teaching and how I am continually adapting my teaching to each student’s abilities and capabilities.

Private lessons are $55 for 45-minute lessons once a week; young students may begin with 30-minute lessons at $35 for two months or until they are ready for the linger lesson

I started teaching piano by taking beginning students for whom my high school piano teacher had no availability. I continued teaching while I was studying piano through college. After some years off, I have taught lessons at Mount Paran Church since 2001.
Be ready to learn a skill that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Be ready to spend time and focus on lessons and daily practice. Consistency will bring much satisfaction.
