About

My Teaching Approach: Having fun with your instrument and making practice time as exciting as possible is my main goal as a music teacher! I enjoy teaching material that not only emphasizes a variety of techniques but also focuses on the genres and specific musical artists that inspire the student.

My Influences Are: I started on a nylon stringed acoustic when I was about 12 and didn't pick up an electric til my late 20s. I moved to Maui in 2008 and learned the Ukulele (the two instruments are surprisingly alike). There isn't a genre of music I don't like but some of my favs are grunge, classic rock, folk, blues and reggae.

Guitar Lessons with me take place: Online (just use your phone ;)

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: Message me for availability.

Guitar Techniques: Chords & changes, Flatpicking techniques, Fingerstyle picking, Scales, Modes & Arpeggios, Soloing, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Chord Theory, Staff Music, Song Writing.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: The first lesson is just as much a learning process for me as it is for you. I always stear the lesson in the direction of your musical tastes and interests. My most common question is "What would you like to play?" or "What have you been practicing?"

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: I usually split each lesson into thirds starting with review of the previous week's material, then I always introduce something new with every lesson whether it be a theory or technique practice or a new song, but typically I find material that succeeds in combining the two. Then we wrap it up with a mini practice session.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student include: Ideally, my students will put their hands on their guitar everyday. I know an hour of daily practice isn't always convenient, but even if it's only 5 minutes it all adds up quickly! And you might notice how a 5 minute practice easily turns into a 20 or 30 minute practice ;)

Learning that a rational understanding of music only shows you what you need to express yourself but still not how to express creatively is the lesson that took me a while to get. Being able to show a student which crayon to use to draw the sky musically speaking has become an incredibly rewarding experience for me.

Cameron worked with two of our daughters on guitar and ukulele. He is a fantastic coach for teens (and probably just as fantastic for any age)! The girls truly enjoyed and looked forward to each lesson! I am so thankful that we found someone that was such a great fit for our family! I would highly recommend Cameron as a guitar and ukulele coach! He definitely knows his stuff!!

Cameron is a skilled guitar player with an excellent approach to finger picking styles chord progressions, and melodic design. I enjoyed learning from him and felt that he was able to break things down in a patient and compassionate manor, and move at a pace that was comfortable with me. I continue to play and learn from the basic principles Cameron taught me many years ago.

    Frequently asked questions

It all starts with understanding where you are as a musician right now and which direction you want to  go with it.  Beginners are always great because I know just where to start :)  With an intermediate level student I take time to gauge their current knowledge and skill so I can go back with them and fill in any gaps before moving forward.  Advanced students are especially fun because we get work on more genre-specific techniques.
