Theresa is truly a professional musician with amazing credentials. Shes very friendly, relaxed and upbeat at the same time. She plays various stringed instruments including the cello, violin, and electric & acoustic guitars, etc. I am a self-taught guitarist playing for over 12yrs. and finally learning notes & scales. I would recommend her to anyone, beginner or advanced, wanting to further their knowledge playing any stringed instruments. Top notch player & instructor!

We hit the jackpot-found Theresa, and had an incredible 2 years w/ where my kid studied with her and learned double-bass. I am not joking when I say it finding Theresa as our bass teacher was like finding a diamond in a haystack. She is an excellent, dedicated musician, patient and yet, challenging teacher. She was and is a role model for my kiddo.

I found Theresa on Lessons.com by sheer luck as I looked at several instructors on the island,.. and glad I did! At first I was apprehensive, because of her extraordinary background in music,(see her website) but she greeted me with enthusiasm and made me feel comfortable right away . We talked about my background as a guitar player & already gave me some things to work on. I believe I can achieve my goals working with her. I recommend anyway looking to further their knowledge,at any stage in their lives, beginners or pros to see her.

She is the best teacher I have had. She helped me improve significantly in my tone and technique. She explains everything clearly and well. If you want someone who will seriously push you she is it. I was taught so much and would recommend her to anyone. The philosophy she lives by is also a great thing you learn from her. Part of it is to be yourself when performing do not try to be someone else. The music you are playing should have you in it. I live by this philosophy and it has helped me get far in my career as a cellist.

I have been a student of Mrs. Strange for about 3 years now. To me there is no one that can fill her shoes. I began learning Viola in the 4th grade then had to give it up. I resumed in my late 50’s and Mrs. Strange is very patient, understanding and always works in a manner that is fitted to you the person. She is not do it this way and only this way. She will take the time to figure out what the problem is then to work on fixing it. She was nominated twice for the Grammy Education Awards! She is the best instructor I have ever had. My Mrs. Miyagi!

    Frequently asked questions

The key is to listen to the student and what the student wants to accomplish. Keeping their end goal in mind a curriculum can be designed to accomodate their desire and goals in mind. Each student has a different approach and this needs to be paramount.

In 1997 I was asked to substitute teach and from that day forward I fell in love with art of teaching.

I have worked with "need based" students, kinestetic, auditory, tactile, visual, as well as children (6 and above) through adults and seniors. In the 20+ years of teaching, I have had the opportunity to teach many different types of individuals.

Every moment a student that says they didn't know that and it makes sense, or "Oh wow, that's how that works!".

The instructor should strive to customize your curriculum based on the needs and deficiencies of the student. There are no standard lessons that can fit all students and levels. It's more work for the teacher but you will advance quicker with an instructor that understands how to apporach your learning style and material.

Being honest and understanding limitations is not a weakness. The teacher is there to help you achieve. Make sure the instructor has your goal in mind and not theirs.
