About
I love all things piano!
I'm an experienced pianist accompanying choirs and soloists; playing for church services, weddings and funerals.
While I taught piano in my home pre-Covid19, I've learned to teach piano online and have found that it's a satisfying and worthwhile effort for me and for my students .
I'll include music theory along with repertoire in your weekly lesson. We can adjust the ratio according to your goals. For example, I have one student who wants to learn sight-reading before she auditions for a choir, so we concentrate on note-reading and singing pitches as well as playing keyboard.
For younger students, I recommend a 30-minute lesson which is $20 while older children and adults have a 45-minute lesson for $25 online. (If you come to my home, the 30 minute lesson is $15 and the 45-minute one is $20) Students and I have duplicate books to make the online experience feasible. Following your lesson, I'll send a synopsis of the lesson including the assignment for the upcoming week. Between lessons I'm accessible via email or Facebook and am happy to troubleshoot or answer questions!
It's important to have a piano (acoustic or digital) or touch-sensitive keyboard with pedal in your home for practicing. At the very beginning, a smaller keyboard without pedal can be used, but plan ahead on upgrading before too long. Touch-sensitivity is essential - a keyboard that can be played louder by striking the keys harder.
Piano is a terrific addition to my life and I'd like to help you get started at this lifetime pleasure!
Sincerely,
Paula Long
There is such pleasure in playing the piano expressively: seeing my students develop and enjoy the same pleasure is their gift to me! I thoroughly enjoy listening to my students play well. Piano music is lovely, so varied and so responsive to the pianist's touch.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When we first connect, I'll ask about previous music or piano lessons, if you have books and which ones, your age and goal (do you want to sing in or accompany a group, play for personal enjoyment or for your family sing-a-longs, etc), whether you have a keyboard, digital or acoustic piano and we'll discuss length of your lesson.
