About

A new world requires new approaches to everything we do. With the onset of the Covid pandemic, I was forced to re-think my approach to giving piano lessons. After much experimentation I have found much success in giving piano lessons remotely.

Lessons given remotely can still be fun and effective, which has always been my goal. Of course, teaching remotely gives me the advantage of teaching students from all around the country and not just in my area. Most importantly, however, my approach to lessons are 100% safe in a new world that doesn't provide much safety when we need it most.

I also have begun teaching lessons once again in my home if students are willing to travel.

Welcome to New World Piano Lessons!

Teaching piano is my pride and joy! After teaching for over 20 years privately and for community colleges, I have found a method that is well-balanced. With my piano lessons you will not only learn the proper technique, but I will balance that out with the proper amount of music theory and history. In other words I teach you to understand what you are doing, so that you can ultimately experiment and be creative on your own. As a both a pianist and composer myself, I have played and written in many musical styles and always aim to adapting myself to the needs of the student. The most rewarding experience for me is when I can share a bit of the wisdom I have learned throughout the years to inspire a new student and help them to find their own piano voice.

    Frequently asked questions

I strive to find the true motivation for the student's inspiration to begin lessons.  Why they want to play on the piano and what they want to do with it is the most critical factor in determine how I work with each student.  In other words, I don't force my style upon the student, but I force myself to adapt to THEIR needs.  This is why my approach to each student is always different.  I leave it up to the student to find the true path they want to travel.  I simply guide them in the proper direction.

I received my Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance and Masters of Music in Instrumental Conducting.  Both degrees were earned at San Diego State University.

I then began teaching a large variety of music classes at San Diego Mesa College including piano classess (all levels), music fundamentals, music history, history of rock music and music theory.  I currently teach there today.

I also currently teach keyboard lessons at Guitar Lessons, which include all music styles.

I can give 30 or 60 minute lessons once per week at the following rates.

    30 minutes = $25

    60 minutes = $45

Sometimes students are only able to attend every other week.  In that event I hold a 1.5 hour lesson every 2 weeks at the following rate.

    1.5 hours = $70

I accept payments through Paypal, Cashapp or Venmo.  Payments are made at the top of the month for all the lessons held during that month.
