About this pro

I have over 25 years of experience in the music industry as a guitar player, singer and songwriter. I have a knack for finding my students' strengths and keeping the process of learning music fun!

Helping others so that they can enjoy a long life filled with music! It feels good to help people reach their goals and acquire skills so they can become independent learners!!  I also like the challenge of helping each student get better because I get to be more creative as a teacher.

Working with a very qualified musician.

  • Jason Knowles

Charlie is very knowledgeable about guitar and helped me take my playing to the next level. I learned simpler ways to understand the fretboard and also learned skills to become self sufficient. He’s also a really nice guy and explains things well.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

The first lesson/consultation helps me assess the students' skill level and musical goals!! From there I put together a lesson plan according to the students' needs. I want my students to feel excited and not get discouraged so I think it's important to keep it fun!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I'm a working musician and I have over 25 years of playing under my belt. I've also studied with some great teachers and learned many helpful tricks to help fascilitate my lessons.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Sutton Family Music rates are: $25 per half hour. $35per forty-five. $50per hour.

How did you get started teaching?

I started by helping friends and family learn to play guitar and then word got around!

What types of students have you worked with?

I work with all ages and skill levels. I'm here to help my students become independent learners so they can enjoy a lifetime of playing.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

I look forward to snow on Bogus Basin because I love to ski!! I also like going to my kids' sporting events and extracurricular activities!!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Ask as many questions as needed and be clear about what it is you are trying to accomplish. There are many styles and lots of different ways to approach the guitar. We are here to help make that process easier.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What are your goals? What style of music interests you the most? Who are your favorite artists/bands? Are you interested in composing originals, learning cover tunes, learning lead or rhythm?
