About
I teach children up to age 16. I give my young students tools that they can implement within 1 lesson. I teach very practically and fun. I help students learn their favorite song, and also teach you how to write songs if that is your interest. I'm self-taught and have played guitar (by ear) for 33 years. I've been writing songs for 30 years. My influences are Bob Dylan, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Jack Johnson, Suzanne Vega, Natalie Merchant to name a few. My guitar lessons take place at my home in Meridian, ID. or the student's home for a $5 gas fee. Guitar Techniques include: Song Writing, Fingerstyle, Performance, and rhythm guitar. Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: teaching the names of the strings, showing them the different parts of the guitar, and simple finger exercises. I will have them show me what they know, so that I have a better idea of where to go from there. Each week, I start out by going over the homework they've been working on throughout the week, and then build on that. I will teach you songs of your choice, working with a metronome, hand strengthening exercises, chords, etc. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student are a beginner student who is eager to learn, and taking lessons by CHOICE. I prefer to teach children up to age 16. I also play the ukulele and bass guitar if they are interested in learning those instruments as well.
In rememebering all of the encouragement people gave me when I first started out, I like to pay it forward encouraging and inspiring those who are starting their musicial journey. I enjoy seeing my students grow in their skills as a beginner musician. I really love the challenge each student brings, as it helps me stay at the top of my game as a musician.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Each student is different, I always ask what their goals are and customize my lessons accordingly. I give them homework to work on throughout the week, and I keep them accountable.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am self-taught, and have been playing guitar by ear since I was 13. I have been performing music for 25years. I also play the bass and ukulele, and am happy to teach that as well.
How did you get started teaching?
It sort of happened naturally. I was teaching friends at first, and realized that I really enjoyed it.
What types of students have you worked with?
I mainly work with beginners. Some who have barely even picked up a guitar, to students who are preparing for their first recital.
