We teach many adults!

The Northwest Academy of Music was founded in 1989 as a music school for young children, offering programs which develop total musicianship skills from a very early age. These include being able to accurately identify and reproduce musical pitch vocally and instrumentally, imitate and create new rhythms, develop good sight reading skills, have a thorough understanding of music theory, create compositions using students’ natural creativity, and exhibit polished ensemble skills. We strive to motivate students at their various developmental levels through song, movement, and a variety of activities which inspire children of all ages to excel in the joy of musical pursuits.

    Frequently asked questions

It depends on the age of the student and type of lesson. Young children learn the subject of music through movement, exploration, and participation. Through this process of discovery they find they begin making great music as a natural extension of what they have learned in music class. Older students have the reward of following their dreams in a custom-made lesson which caters to their own personal goals. Students move at the pace with which they are comfortable.

The majority of our teachers have degrees in music as evidenced by their biographical information on our website. All teachers have an extensive background in professional performance, being lifelong musicians.

Not all great musicians are good teachers, however. Our teachers go through an extensive interview and audition process to qualify as instructors who truly can impart information in an appropriate and easy to understand format.

Class students are billed according to a family-friendly pricing structure. Most classes are priced at half the rate of what a typical private lesson would be billed at. Early pay and second child discounts are available.

Private students pay according to the rate various teachers set, usually $20-$25.00 per half hour

Each teacher will tell you that music is the most important thing in his/ her life. It is sheer joy to impart that knowledge to another person. It is a life-changing experience which will enrich each student for many years to come.

All types: toddlers to elderly adults and every age in between, child prodigies, learning and physically disabled, you name it! We have done it all. No student is beyond our ability to teach.

We had Rockin' in the Lot in our parking lot where local bands and our own students got to play! We love it when our students participate in competitions and charity events, putting their music study to good use.

It pays to get a quality teacher. There is an easy way and a hard way to learn everything. We have often seen students who studied elsewhere first, making half as much progress than they would have with us. When you add it all up, it doesn't pay to go with an inexperienced, less expensive teacher. It will cost more in the long run. We guarantee that you will be taught correctly in the best manner possible from our team of highly educated instructors.

What kind of music do I like? What have I always wanted to know how to sing or play? What is my lifelong dream in becoming a musician?
