Albena says, " I have taken Christine Nye's yoga classes and workshops at Ahmisa and I also took private yoga lessons with her. She is an excellent yoga instructor. Her explanations of yoga poses is easy to understand and she also provided helpful modifications to poses that were difficult for me to do. I like that she has a mindful and holistic approach to instruction and focuses on both body and mind. In addition to teaching the correct execution of yoga poses, she also coaches her students, including myself, on proper posture and walking. For instance, I had no idea that possibly my entire life I had been walking with my left toes pointing straight and right toes pointing to the right until she pointed it out and suggested a correction. Changing minor things like that has had a huge impact on my well being. I would recommend Christine's classes to people from all walks of life and flexibility levels who want to practice yoga. Your meditation questions, answered

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.

How much do meditation classes cost near me?

Meditation classes cost $15 to $30 per person for a group session. One-on-one sessions cost $60 to $150 per hour for a more individualized experience. Some teachers offer online virtual classes for groups or individuals with ongoing monthly plans.

Higher prices apply for supplemental add-ons to enhance meditation, such as aromatherapy or sound baths with Tibetan singing bowls.

What should you expect at a meditation class?

Meditation classes typically start with an introductory talk. Then everyone closes their eyes and sits still. Classes can include a simple guided breathing technique to reduce stress and tension. If it's a guided meditation session, then the teacher speaks each instruction for focusing.

Note: The length of the silent pauses during the class will vary depending on the technique and style. Some meditation classes are in complete silence from beginning to end. Afterward, there may be a questions and answer session and light refreshments.

Why should you go to a meditation class?

Benefits from going to a mediation class include:

  • Reducing stress and releasing mental tension
  • Increasing self-awareness
  • Enhancing creativity and imagination
  • Promoting mental clarity by focusing on the present moment
  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Decreasing anxiety
  • Helping to relieve depression
  • Boosting personal and spiritual growth

How long is a meditation class?

Most meditation classes last for 30 to 60 minutes. Longer classes on meditation retreats typically have a short break in between for bathroom trips and stretching your legs.

How do you prepare for a meditation class?

Do prepare for a meditation class by taking a bathroom break, drinking some water, and doing a few gentle stretches to get into a comfortable sitting posture.

Do not eat a large meal or drink alcohol less than 2 hours before class because these things can make you fall asleep when trying to meditate. Having a lot of caffeine before a meditation class can make it harder to sit still.

What do you bring to a meditation class?

Things to bring to a meditation class include:

  • A change of comfortable clothing if you're coming from the office
  • A meditation pillow, yoga mat, or bench to sit on
  • An eye mask if the lighting is distracting
  • A journal and pen to track insights

Tip: Ask the meditation center or teacher beforehand about which items they have available.

What should you wear to a meditation class?

The ideal clothing to wear for a meditation class is comfortable clothing that lets you to breathe easily and sit on the floor or stretch a little. Loose-fitting clothing is ideal.

What classes complement meditation classes?

Matt is a phenomenal guitar teacher! He has the formal education and the passion necessary to be a truly effective instructor. After every lesson, he e-mails me a summary of what I need to work on. He makes learning guitar fun but also holds me accountable. And he teaches all ages. Lessons with Matt are the highlight of my week!

have to thank you for presenting such a wonderful class! More people should know about it. I think its so wonderful that I think it should be held more often. Just wanted you to know, I just got back from trotting with my dog! I won’t have thought of doing this a month ago...I have balance issues. Normally, I consider myself pretty lucky to not trip or fall clumsily to the ground. Not to mention, achy knees and ankles which make just walking a challenge sometime. So to practically run with my dog is pretty amazing. I really would like to thank you for covering my ankles with the blanket. never did that before but it felt so warm and just wonderful. In Chinese medicine which I practice...the ankles and knees reflect the Kidneys which are related to the reproductive organs-function. In prolapse there are other energies involved but basically if your Kidney is weak other organs tend to be weak too. We treat the problem by warming the Kidneys. The blanket on the ankles served that function just fine. I tend to turn the Chinese Medicine side of me off when I do Yoga but I’m going to change that to use everything I can to become more aware. The thing I’ve taken away from your class is that I need to focus more on maintaining that sense of fluidity and balance I’ve had these past days. I know I’ve only addressed balance and not so much the prolapse, I can’t quite put my finger on it but your class touched on something that sparked my awareness about how balance and my reproductive organs connect. Thanks for the warmth and support Sincerely, Yoshinao

I felt a connection with Sarah immediately after taking one of her yoga workshops. After a few classes with Sarah, I knew she was the yoga role model I was seeking. Sarah guided me with her love of yoga, inspired my mind, and taught me to trust my instincts in my yoga journey. She is a confident guide, sharing her immense depth of knowledge. I would highly recommend working with Sarah Lindgren!
