About
I teach all levels from beginner to college level. degrees are in piano performance, which means my entire focus has been on piano. I’ve studied with concert artists throughout my life. In addition, I’ve written 3 music theory workbooks that I use with students.
There is a great deal of info on my website: RussakoffMusic.mymusicstaff.com
I love teaching! To me it is not the “filling of a pail, but rather the lighting if a fire”. It is important for so many areas but I think the main one is when a child learns to believe in himself and his abilities upon seeing see tangible results. It is gratifying to the spirit to bring a piece of music to life. Music is in our DNA. And to me teaching sets a part of the spirit free to soar.
I’ve been teaching over 30 years and that experience has helped me hone my skills. Not everyone learns or thinks in the same way. A teacher has to be adaptable to the needs of each student
Again, my website has a great deal of information, including links about the value of music on the brain, and parent comments.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I take students through every step in learning to play the piano. Note reading, rhythm, finger technique, repertoire, performance.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have both a bachelor's and master's degree in piano performance
At 16 I debuted with the New Orleans Philharmonic.
I've studied with concert artists
Over 35 years experience in teaching
What types of students have you worked with?
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise that they make sure the teacher has a music educational background and that they teach note reading from the beginning. Learning to play without that causes lifelong difficulties in learning music.
