My teaching approach:

After winning the “Chicagoâ€TMs Finest Guitarist” competition sponsored by industry heavy-weights such as Fender, Peavey, and Guitar Player magazine, Mike was also the featured spotlight in Guitar World magazine. With his band SBS, Mike next won the Chicago House of Blues competition followed by gigs alongside multi-platinum recording artists such as Blues Traveler, Paula Cole, Government Mule, Bare-Naked Ladies and many others. I don't subscribe to a one size fits all approach. I work hard to design individualized instruction approaches that work with the skill level and goals of my students.

I would first assess the experience and skill level of the student, quickly followed by a discussion about goals, aspirations, and influences. I work together with my students to design lessons that are fun, informative, and goal-oriented.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:

It all depends on the student. Lessons might include basics like sight readin, ear training, learning songs, and "just jamming", all the way to advanced theoretical concepts, contemporary styles, improvisation, and technique. Anything goes.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:

One who is engaged and willing to put the time in to reach their goals-even if the goal is only to have a fun hobby!
