About
Music is my passion, and I see teaching violin as a way of spreading the love for this great art form. I'm convinced that having an appreciation for the arts is so necessary for us all as individuals and as a society. So, my ultimate goal is to help students experience the joy and connection that are part of music, so they can then share this with others, and become more well-rounded, creative, and empathetic.
I help students create a practice routine so that they can improve their technique through consistent work. I'm happy to guide my students through practicing, and show them how to practice efficiently. I grew up learning to play with the Suzuki violin method, and later I went on to do Suzuki Teacher Training, so most of my teaching of beginning students uses Suzuki's ideas. In the case of young students, I strongly encourage parents to be present at lessons, and oversee home practice. Those two factors will help students improve much faster, and ultimately, if they improve faster they'll enjoy it more. I stress helping students have a relaxed and balanced posture, and I make sure they establish good technical habits and correct form right away. This makes playing easier, so they don't have to go back and change the incorrect habits years later.
I teach private students at my house, but can also do online/Skype lessons.
I have had a studio at the Laughlin School of Music in Northbrook, Illinois, The People's School of Music in Chicago, and Musical Offering in Evanston, Illinois for eleven years altogether, before moving to Grand Rapids, Michigan.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My current rate is $50 per hour, $40 for a 45-minute lesson, and $30 for 30 minutes.
I'd prefer payment to be made a month ahead of time, for four lessons. I am flexible and can work with you though, if your situation makes that difficult.
