Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process is to understand the specific student interest and capabilities of each student and provide what best meets the needs of each student and the way they learn. it is a process customized to each student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
See my website for photo, testimonials and specifics of my professional music experience and education. www.pianolessonsnaperville.com
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are at my home studio in SW Naperville/White Eagle subdivision. Lessons are $30 for 45 minute sessions but often run to 60 minutes at no additional charge.
How did you get started teaching?
I began playing professionally with older musicians at age 16 and continued playing professionally throughout my university and early career years. Subsequently my playing activities became less as my business travel intensified; but I continued to study privately with highly regarded actively performing professionals. After a sucessful business career I focused on teaching students with serious interest in becoming better musicians and steadily increased my students through referrals.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have helped students from age 8 through age 76. I have often worked with high school students whose primary instrument is not piano but who want to major in music in college and/or want to better understand harmony, arranging, composing and improvising and realize that piano is a gateway to accomplishing these goals.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My website includes "You Tube" performances of two of my students-one now just in 8th grade (rogo8888) and the other a high school senior (Marissa plays piano). Their performances are a tribute to their learning to enjoy playing many styles of music. even though each will probably not pursue a full time career in music but know this ability is something they can enjoy the rest of their life. Many of my high school students have won college scholarships and tested out of some college music classes. I have worked with many adults who want to resume music after a long absence due to family and career interruptions.
