About this pro

I specialize in piano and percussion lessons. Currently I am the Assistant Marching Band Director and Percussion Instructor for Willowbrook High School. I have been teaching piano and percussion lessons for over 10 years, as well as having experience with music theory, composition, arranging, and music history.

What I enjoy most about teaching music is inspiring students in a way that they haven't even thought of before. Many students take music classes because their parents want them to do it. It is my job to make that student actually love playing music and continue to do it for years to come.

  • Joey C.

He truly cares for his students and helps his artists reach their highest potential. GREAT TEACHER!

  • Kris E.

Kyle was very patient and professional as I was new to learning instruments. He takes the time to figure out the areas where you need more improvement and works with you on them. Each lesson he will address the area where you need more practice from the previous lesson to see how far the improvement is coming along. Kyle Is definitely someone I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn a instrument. He has a lot of vast knowledge of music and is very passionate and experienced at playing and teaching musical instruments.

Very professional instructor and incredibly knowledgeable about multiple types of instruments. All around a terrific teacher.

I was very attentive to your needs and your process of learning. And I knew how to deal with someone who didn’t know anything about music, but was able to get them engaged and interested in learning in playing piano.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

My typical process is getting to know the student on what they know about music. How long have they been playing music? What made them decide to take lessons? What kind of music do they like and are interesting in playing? All of this information will help me figure out what to teach them and how to teach them.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have been teaching private lessons for 10 years, ranging from beginners to advanced, and ages 7-50 years old. I am also currently the Assistant marching band director and percussion instructor for Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, IL.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching from a colleague asking me to help teach some students, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions because teaching music was very natural to me.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with students ranging from elementary school to high school. As well as having to teach private lessons for adults.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

Every concert I have had with my students at Willowbrook High School has been great, espeically considering the pandemic issues and teaching all online. But my students were able to still record videos of themselves playing their instruments, and were able to make a video of all of them performing a pieces together.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

The more experience the teacher has, the better off you will be from learning something from them. Teachers have a wide range of experience and dealing with everything from beginners to professional, and the more they teach the more options they have for teaching specific students.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

The first question I always asked when I was taking lessons was what kind of experience the teacher had with performing on their instrument. For music, I think it is definitely important for teachers to not only talk the talk, but also walk the walk. Music is very much a field that you have to experience yourself in order to teach other techniques and skills. If a student doesn't understand what you are teaching them, I think it is important for the teacher to demonstrate that skill for the student.
