About
I love teaching. I am most passionate about teaching students who have had a few lessons but still can't play without sheet music.
I'm as equally comfortable with beginning students as I am with advanced or intermediate.
I specialize in blues and jazz music and the art of improvisation. Concentrating mostly on a few simple patterns and building on those.
The whole time we are focusing on the mindset of going with the flow of the music instead of focusing on the notes.
My favorite rule about music is, "There are no rules. Some notes are slightly better than others."
I love that 'A-Ha!' moment when a student truly gets it. I've seen it happen countless times and it always feels like magic. The thing is I know it takes a combination of techniques to get to that point. No two students learn exactly the same way.
So my job as your teacher is to get you to that point quickly. This way you're as excited as I am to continue to down the path of knowledge,
It is a process. Not an event. The journey can be breathtaking. It can also be filled with struggles and challenges. A good teacher knows those moments are temporary.
The journey is worth it when we get to that beautiful feeling of accomplishing something difficult and new. Your smile from ear to ear tells us when we've arrived.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Typically I like to ask questions to see where you want to go and what you want to do when we're done with a series of lessons. If you are a total beginner, I have some excellent methods to get you playing right away. From Lesson One.
I also have extensive knowledge of the repertoire needed to guide you as you progress in your love of playing.
