Julie Miller Voice Lessons

Ms. Miller has nearly a decade of experience in teaching private voice. She feels that proper breath support, mask resonance and diction serve as the basis for all singing technique, and that when these three things work together, you can successfully sing in any style. As a professional singer, Ms. Miller can also offer valuable expertise in audition preparation, repertoire/song selection and ear training skills. She takes great joy in sharing her knowledge with her students of all ages and skill levels, and works with each student to design a unique lesson plan that will enable them to reach their vocal and music goals. During her teaching career, she had assisted high school students prepare for college auditions, worked with university students as their applied music professor, rebuilt voices that were damaged by misuse and helped singers from all genres learn to use their voices to their maximum potential. Hailed as possessing a voice of “spell-binding power and intensity” (The Register-Guard), mezzo-soprano Julie Miller has recently appeared with Lyric Opera of Chicago as Emilia in Otello, Ida in Die Fledermaus, Annina in La Traviata and Krystina (The Passenger); with Vero Beach Opera as Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus; and with Lyric Unlimited as Elizabeth in the world premiere of Second Nature. She has also of late been a featured soloist with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, with the Oregon Mozart Players, at the Ravinia Festival and at the Grant Park Music Festival. In the coming months, she looks forward to appearing as a featured soloist with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra and the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, and as the Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter (Yardbird) with Madison Opera and Lyric Unlimited. Ms. Miller is an alumna of the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center and the Danis Wilson Apprentice Program.
