About
i am delighted to teach 70 voice and piano students 5 yrs to 90 yrs in Lafayette IN! My students perform for the community at the park, the library, and the nursing homes! I have students who have music as a life career and students who learn music as a hobby-pure enjoyment. I take you from where you are in music to where you want to be! It has to include technics to help you improve and it has to be fun! However, at the moment i am full 3-9pm Monday-Friday. I can take students in the morning and early afternoon before 3pm.
I have 3 degrees in music and have performed in Europe, on TV, in churches etc. I have directed musicals, owned a music store, and have directed large fine arts camps! I feel priviledged to have accomplished everything I have wanted. Now i can get the student to his goals faster with a lot of fun ways to do it!
I love seeing the light bulb go on when they understand and apply a concept! I love hearing them perform for others and showcase their musical expertise! I love demonstrating how music can make your life happier! I love seeing them every week and develop relationships with students and families!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
With young piano students I test them for their readiness for lessons starting at age 5. At the end of a free 15 minute session I will consult with their parent to give my opinion.
Young voice students will receive a free 15 minute session to see if they are matching pitch. I will work with any older student to take them from where they are. I have helped many people to match pitch or advanced students to use technics to improve their voice.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 3 degrees in music. The Kindermusik training helps me with the younger students. I have taught at the university level for private voice, English diction, opera, and women's choirs. I have directed fine arts camps, musicals and voice and piano lessons for 40+ years. I am delighted to help the light bulb go on when a new technic is learned!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
All the private lessons are $90/month. Registration fee is $21/annually. Lessons are 22.50 each for half hour.
How did you get started teaching?
After 11 years of piano lessons I went to college at Olivet Nazarene University for a Bachelor's Degree in music education. After completing a Master's Degree and a C.A.S. I taught Middle School in Schererville, IN, then at Olivet in Bourbonnais, IL. I have owned a music store, a teaching studio with hired teachers, and now I have a private studio on the Southside of Lafayette.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with young piano and voice students including autistic children and others with special needs. I have worked with college bound students, teaching them music theory, technics in music and performance skills. I have some advanced students who perform solos in the community and others who have made a life career in music!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love taking students to perform in my music therapy classes at the Indiana Veterans' Home. Every year I take advanced students to the Trilogy nursing homes in town for their themed dinners. Many summers I have directed musicals and other events! I love performing at the Columbian park with all my students. The other recitals are at the West Lafayette Public Library.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a person with lots of education, good communication with the clients and the ability to teach technics to make you a great musician while having fun! Music has so many benefits but it should be enjoyable!
