About

Elkhart School of Music has been offering quality music lessons in Downtown Elkhart, Indiana since 2007. We accept students from age 4 to 104. Since no two people learn exactly the same way, our teachers taylor each student's lessons to suit the individual. Students may progress at their own pace. Teachers emphasize proper technique and learning the "language" of music as well as using songs and excercises that are fun for the student.

My guitar teacher is incredible! He understands my needs as a student, and explains techniques in a way I’m able to understand. I’ve only been a student of his for a short time. But, I’ve already learned quite a bit to better myself as a guitarist. Looking forward to many more lessons!

Awesome instructors, super nice staff. My kids really look forward to their lessons each week and they practice at home without my having to nag. The instructors know how to keep them interested and engaged. What more could a parent want?

    Frequently asked questions

Each student is an individual.  Therefore, we have no "typical" process for our students.  We take into account the student's age, experience, and musical goals to help us determine the best course of study for each student.

All ESOM teachers hold college degrees in music (sometimes multiple music degrees), have years of professional performance experience, or both.

Tuition is $120 per calendar month, which normally yields four lessons.  There is a $30 registration/membership fee once per year.   Seniors (age 60 and up) may take discounted lessons at $85 per month.  Veterans and first responders also pay $85 per month regardless of age.

Every one of our teachers has a different story to tell, but they all have warm personalities, are extremely friendly, and are dedicated to teaching you the style of music that you want to learn in your music lessons with an emphasis on fun!

We accept students from age 4 to 104 and from all walks of life.  ADD, ADHD, Autistic and Down Syndrome students have found a happy learning experience here as well.  We are the only school in Michiana that offers all of these popular instruments: Electric & Acoustic Guitar, Voice, Piano, Drums, Ukulele, Electric Bass, Violin, Viola, Cello, Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, Baritone Horn, Tuba, Recorder, and Mandolin year round in one location.

Our last recital on August 1st was our best ever !  Our students sang, played guitar, piano, violin, and ukulele and did an awesome job!  All while being socially distant and safe.  Recitals are usually performed at the Northern Indiana Event Center in Elkhart for lots of space.  We always have a professional sound and lighting crew as well as a videographer to tape the event.  Performers get a free copy of the videoabout three weeks after the event.  Our next recital will be December 19th.

Students are never "required" to play in recital.  It is entirely up to each individual to decide if they'd like to audition for a performance invitation from our Director.  In short, those who wish to perform in recital must earn a place by auditioning for our Director.

At Elkhart School of Music all of our teachers are professional, experienced musicians and teachers.  All have university music degrees.  We only hire those teachers who have passed a rigorous audition, whose references check out, and who pass an in-depth national background check, including a fingerprint scan by law enforcement for the safety of our students.

Only consider taking lessons with a trained professional. Your teacher should have a four-year music degree from an established university and be able to take you well beyond the basics.  But remember that hiring a good player does not necessarily equate to hiring a good teacher.  At Elkhart School of Music all of our teachers have been pre-screened and time-tested to give you the best of both worlds.  They are both good players and good teachers.
