I have been playing the piano for 47 years. I learned to play by era when I was ten years old and had only theee years of lessons. I enjoying hearing student learn all the aspects of learning how to read music, learning dynamics, and how to play by ear if they have that natural bent. I have just recently (the last four years) have started students in piano in Rangely, CO and now in the KC area.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I begin with learning the key names and the notes in music using FACE and Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge type mnemonics to learn the notes on the scales.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have had five years of lessons but have played for choirs and church at times.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $30 half hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I had a student in my fourth grade class that wanted to take piano lessons which led to another student wanting lessons.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have only worked with beginner players.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My present student has been picking up more difficult music every week and enjoys playing. She was able to take "Mary had a little Lamb" and hear the left hand harmony to play with both hands using no music...playing by ear.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise students and their parents to find a teacher who is encouraging but also patient with mistakes.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What are my time limitations? To I have the desire and patience to learn piano? Do I really want to learn to play?
