About

I teach all ages, and a broad variety of styles. I give classical piano recitsls, but I also play in a contemporary band at my church.

I have taught college music courses for 27 years, holding a doctorate in piano.

I like finding ways to challenge and motivate students to become good musicians.

Professor Golightlys lessons and teaching technique are student focused, and he takes each of his students seriously, no matter where you begin or are in your playing ability. He helps you achieve your playing/musical goals. I have had piano lessons off and on for many years. My lessons with Prof Golightly are the best! I am playing better than I ever have, and also learning how to learn and practice. He is a retired professor of music, and a classical pianist who still performs. A small town such as Richmond is lucky to have the quality of this training available.

Wes makes my piano experience very enjoyable. I am improving with his instruction , he makes it fun, and gives me a variety of music to play. I am so happy that I have Wes as my teacher.

    Frequently asked questions

First, I have an introductory "lesson" in which the student can get to know me and how I work. We do some evaluative activities that are a sample of how we might work together. During this time, I assess the background, dexterity, and readiness of the student.

Next, I talk with the student (and parents of younger students) about goals: what does the student want to accomplish by taking lessons? Is it general music education? Is there a certain piece of music that the student is especially motivated to learn?

Finally, I propose a course of study to reach those goals. This will include the cost of lessons, the necessity of regular practice, and relavent studio policies.

I have a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance. I have taught private and group lessons on the college level for 26 years, in addition to teaching private lessons at all age levels for 50 years.

I have played piano recitals fairly regularly throughout my life. I have also been a lifetime church musician, playing gospel, traditional and contemporary church music styles.

As a violinist, I used violin as a secondary instrument in college, playing in college ensembles and in a civic orchestra.
