My major Instruments in college were clarinet and alto sax but have also been playing and performing professionally on guitar and keyboards since 1978

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
A short one on one interview to assess the real needs and expectations of each student regardless of their experience. Lessons are then planned accordingly to meet those needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's in music therapy with a certification in music education in both instrumental and vocal music. I have also been a professional performer on reeds, guitar and keyboards since 1978.
How did you get started teaching?
I was laid off from my music therapy job with the state of Louisiana in 2000 and began teaching in2001 as a band director, and recieved my certification in 2002. I began teaching privately at that time.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with beginners to college students and have as a music therapist worked teaching lessons to those with special needs children and adults.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently beginning to play music again for live audiences after a short break from doing so.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who is patient and also passionate about what they are attempting to accomplish with their students and one who also takes their needs and expectations into consideration as well.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
One thing students should know is that music and art is a journey that is not finished in a week or year or 5 yrs but a lifetime but can be do e with commitment.
