About

My teaching approach:

I am a musician of 32 years. I've been dedicated to teaching private music lessons and rock band classes to students from Sandwich, Hyannis and all of Cape Cod since 1997 and recently I've been branching out to teaching in the Providence and Boston areas as well as online. I do my best to stay in tune with the music industry and pop culture as they evolve and my unique ability to communicate music to my students builds a sincere sense of enthusiasm and real results.

I achieved a 3.87 GPA with the completion of a 12 course Production & Guitar Master Certificate program through BerkleeMusic Online and passed Avid’s 200 level courses to become an Avid certified Pro Tools Operator (music). Check out my "Mode 4 Music" YouTube channel to see performance video from students of my private lesson and rock band class programs from over the years. ( www.youtube.com/mode4music )

I love helping students improve and reach their musical goals - it feels great to make a positive difference in people's lives.

    Frequently asked questions

I try to get a firm foundation of proper technique as early on as possible but I also like to get started as early on as possible learning any songs the student might like or suggest. I also like to spend some time getting to know the student and what they would like to get out of their lesson then taylor things more specifically from there.

    I am a multi-instrumental musician of 32 years.

For 3-4 years in my mid to late teens I played guitar, sang backing vocals, and contributed significantly to music writing and arranging for original progressive rock band “Deviation”. (Search “Deviation Tony Bonelli” on YouTube for 16 year old outdoor house party performance video).

For 3-4 years in my early twenties I played lead guitar, sang backing vocals/harmonies, and sang half the lead vocals for local Cape Cod retro themed show band “Daughter Judy” playing 3 sets per night at local clubs and bars with an authentic costume change for each set including a 60’s psychedelic rock set, a 70’s disco set & an 80’s new wave set all featuring some of the favorite hits from those respective decades/genres. I was also the business manager of this band booking gigs, replacing members as necessary, organizing rehearsals and delegating side work etc..

I’ve got 24 years of experience teaching private lessons (for drums, bass, guitar, piano, voice,  mandolin, ukulele, and production), teaching rock band classes/coaching bands, engineering live sound, and offering recording/production services. For the peak 2 years or so of that time I worked 7 days per week carrying the equivalent of 100 half hour lesson slots per week between private lesson student bookings of anywhere from half hour to 3 hour slots and rock band classes that lasted anywhere from 1 to 2 hours.

I have achieved a 3.87 GPA for completion of 12 course Production & Guitar Master Certificate program from BerkleeMusic Online.

I am 1 of only 10 people in Massachusetts that completed through Avid’s 200 level courses at New England Institute of Art in Boston to become an AVID certified ProTools HD8 Operator (Music).

I have had the honor of being hired by Anthony Shriver (founder of the Best Buddies organization) to teach guitar and drums to his youngest son Joey. I’ve also had the honor of being hired by Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton for 6 consecutive summers starting in 2006 (and then again on and off periodically to date) to teach his son Julian drums, bass, guitar, voice and Pro Tools focused production classes.

$30 per half hour, $45 for 45 minutes, or $60 per hour and so on (possible additiinal fees to be negotiated depending on location and amount of travel involved).

One time fee of $20 to register but currently running a promotion to waive this fee!

Lessons are scheduled weekly and billed one calendar month at a time. Discontinue by giving notice by last lesson of the current month to not be invoiced for the next month, or otherwise payment for the upcoming month is due at the last lesson of the current month.

Lessons missed by the student can usually be made up if a mutually convenient time can be agreed upon.

Unofficially at age 15 when I started being hired by parents of children from around town to teach their children. Then more officially in 1997 at age 21 when I started working at local lesson facilities. 8 years later after having managed another studio for most of that time, I opened my own studio (Mode 4 Music Studios) at 11 Enterprise road behind the Cape Cod Mall in Hyannis in July of 2005 and operated with great success from that location for 13 and a half years through January of 2019. Now I come to you offering convenient in-home service for all of Cape Cod, Providence and Boston area's, as well as online lessons to anyone anywhere. Please call or text for information or to book time 508-280-3308 - Thank you! 🙏

I’ve worked with all types of students of all ages having students as young as 4 years old and as old as 72 years old at times but mostly 8 to 18 years old. I also have a considerable amount of experience teaching students with intellectual / developmental disabilities such as Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, General Learning Disability, and the blind. I’ve taught lessons for many different instruments including drums, bass, guitar, piano, voice, mandolin, ukulele, production and rock band classes.

In relatively recent past I had a fun visit with songwriter/producer Blake Harnage in his home town in Florida for an equipment purchase which resulted in us jamming on guitar‘s and ultimately spending several hours working up a co-production of of one of my original songs. I produced an awesome demo of a beautiful co-write I had the opportunity to do with singer/songwriter Melissa Polinar. I attended a super cool online mentoring session with Grammy nominated film score composer Ryan Shore covering topics such as composing music for film and mixing for surroundsound. I also produced a 4 song demo for one of my rap recording clients Henry A-Z which was instrumental in him gaining connection with Dr. Dre’s son Curtis Young and going on to score himself a record deal with Juicy J on his Mo Faces label.

In my opinion it makes sense to hire instructor such as myself that has a lot of very good teaching experience from over the years and can bring a lot of peripheral aspect to the table having experience with so many different instruments, band coaching, live sound and recording/production. I also think it makes sense to hire an instructor that is open to taking direction from you the student which I believe is important to do as well. The commitment is only one month at a time so it can't hurt to try a month at least. Hopefully all goes well and continues on but if you're not finding it to be a good fit you can always discontinue at the end of any month.
