How did you get started teaching?
I like to treat the first lesson like an interview where I can learn about the student and what they want to accomplish , musical loves , past experience learning music , basic likes and dislikes. I also like to find out the way they feel they learn the best so I can lay out a plan to get them where the want to be
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students ages 7 to 65 . I have had total beginners to professional that are board with their playing or need fresh ideas . I've taught in a private school for over ten years as well with kids from first to eight grade one kn one and in groups
I've also run several band camps playing pop, rock , soul , and jazz
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently have been touring with a 4 piece rock group that plays with 60 piece symphony orchestras around the country to sold out houses . On one of our tours we got to do a show and tell with all the elementary schools in the area and had the kids up on stage to sing with us . That was amazing
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would tell them to think about what they want to get better at and have a list of questions to ask the teacher to see if they would be a good fit for you
