I’m a Fulbright professor at Berklee College Of Music and also teach out of my home studio in Gloucester, MA. I teach guitar, electric bass, music theory, ear training, improvisation, and also offer online lessons and courses. I teach students of all levels, from beginner to expert, and can offer ensemble playing classes as well.

I enjoy inspiring students to learn. I’m a teacher because I love sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm with learners from all backgrounds. Both my parents were educators, so I always knew I would be teaching.

I have been one of Tom Stein’s private students for almost a year and my musical understanding has greatly benefitted under Tom’s instruction and assistance. I started with no formal musical education. I decided to start taking lessons with a professional teacher out of a strong personal desire to get serious about learning how to play guitar for personal enjoyment. From day one, Tom provided me with one-on-one instruction with course books, demonstration and analysis of my skill level. Tom has taught me to readsheet music, write music on the staff, analyze and translate songs, understand and play music using both guitar and piano. Tom’s knowledge of music and teaching music is exceptional. Tom gave me my initial exposure and understanding of the dynamics of playing with others in a band setting. He is able to teach at all levels and instills understanding and confidence in his students. Tom has made learning music a comfortable experience. He also has great energy and explains the big picture in a way that someone with little training or experience can grasp. He has a special charisma that translates his musical knowledge and teaching style into musical understanding. Thanks to Tom’s coaching, teaching and assistance, I am now playing in a band and really using and enjoying the benefits of his instruction. I never expected to be at this point in such a short time and owe all of my success and achievement to Tom. I highly recommend Tom as a gifted teacher to anyone who desires to improve their musical skill and understanding, and I look forward to continuing my music education with Tom as my guide.

All ages and all levels, from absolute beginners to active professional musicians. I have also taught performance students on all instruments. I like multicultural musical events and often travel overseas for cultural and educational exchanges, as a Fulbright.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Look for a teacher that really knows their stuff, is prepared to teach, and can quickly adapt their teaching methods to your own style of learning. A good teacher will make you feel excited about learning.
