(Our son) made it into districts with an 80/89 (I think cut off was 66 so he smoked) and got perfect scores on the sightreading components! He was also invited to audition at all states again! Thank you for helping him!" "Hi Steve!... Wanted to let you know (our son) just auditioned for and made the (college) Jazz Ensemble! Couldn't have done it without you!" "Steve, you are an amazing teacher. You have kept (our daughter's) attention for years and helped her fall in love with playing. I never have had to ask her to practice. She plays daily as if she needs it in her life. So, thank you, Steve. Keep up the great teaching. I highly recommend you!" Kristin, Ipswich, MA “Steve is one of the finest teachers we have here at the college. He has always been popular with the students and his classes fill up fast because of that. His student evaluations and are very favorable and his commitment to our high standards and ability to teach make him a favorite among the administration as well. He is a dynamic teacher, providing engaging classes that not only offer the curriculum to his students, but also appear to inspire them.” Rob Lehman, Chair, Audio Production Department, The New England Institute of Arts & Communication "In the three short years our daughter (13 years old) has been studying piano with Steve, she has not only progressed in piano, but has developed the skill set to lead worship by learning to accompany herself singing. Not only is Steve an excellent music teacher, he inspires his students to go beyond their limits!” Heather, Middleton, MA “Steve has been teaching both of my children for almost three years. Steve is incredibly patient and the kids really enjoy the lessons (they work hard and laugh a lot!) More importantly, though, Steve knows what he is doing and has great experience. He teaches technical concepts and theory while giving kids the freedom to choose songs and genres they enjoy most. Steve connects with kids and they respond to his enthusiasm by wanting to practice and wanting to progress. Steve fosters a love for all music which gets the kids excited to learn songs that might be outside of what they currently know. I would strongly recommend Steve to beginners, as well as advanced musicians.” Jennifer, Beverly MA

Steve has a unique way of working with his students. He comes alongside each one and does more then just teach chords or solos, but he prepares each student to succeed in their musical ability by building a strong connection in musical theory and teaches in a way that each lesson builds off of each other and allows you to learn a song in a matter of minutes by just looking at a chord progression and understanding how to play the full song simply by that. Personally Steve has introduced me to my favorite musical genre and taught me three different instruments in way that will allow me to continue growing in my musical ability even when I go off to college and am unable to have weekly lessons with him. I would highly recommend Steve Kercher to anyone who wants to grow in their musical talent and be taught in an uplifting and encouraging style!

Mr. Kercher is one of the most encouraging people you will meet. His knowledge of music and his fun personality will help you to become the best musician you can be.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I always ask what their favorite music is and what songs they want to learn. From there we start with what is already familiar to them and build from there.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
