Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First off get a good idea of their musical interest and what they want to achieve and then set up a solid foundation to build upon with progress review along the way.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have played over 55 years and well over 45 years as a performer and educator. I played in National Tours with Luther Johnson and was a member of the Tops in Blue in the USAF. Currently I lead my own 5 star rated band.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
40$ per hour
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching at Dick Johnson music school from 1981 until 1998 and then started musiclessonsdelivered where I still am presently
What types of students have you worked with?
I have many students that have gone on to become teachers themselves and several students that are now industry professionals.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my students performed at Symphony hall Boston last spring. She's still only a sophomore in high school.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I am not only a teacher as I also take lessons from time to time in Master Classes with players of specific skills that I want to develop. So check out a teacher as to what they have achieved themselves and then I have also found that not everyone has a great sense of teaching. It takes sometimes looking back at what hurdles you had to cross and putting yourself in the students footsteps to guide them through.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about your areas you want or need improvement in. Always keep a log of questions to get feedback throughout your studies. Don't be quiet or embarrassed. Be confident of your goals and you will achieve them.
