Hi, my name is Lexi! I've been teaching guitar to all different levels and ages for over 10 years now. A little bit about myself: I graduated from Berklee College of Music in 2005 with a degree in Guitar Performance, receiving a Guitar Department Achievement Award. From 2006-2015, I was the lead guitarist in the Boston-based award-winning world music band Zili Misik, playing coast-to-coast at large festivals, clubs and colleges (and still occassionally play with the "new" Zili formation). I've also performed with reggae singers Queen Omega and Queen Ifrica, indie rock bands from Seattle and Vancouver, and other Boston-based African, rock, folk and pop bands. I occassionally play solo sets with my effect pedals and love experimenting with sound and visuals. Some styles that I specialize in are: acoustic fingerpicking, electric lead soloing, West African hi-life style, jazz and folk.
I love teaching and have worked with beginners, intermediate and advanced students ages 4-60. In addition to teaching guitar, I also love to inspire students to create music videos, write their own songs, record simple tracks and design album artwork. I prefer to teach students to find their own creativity versus learning a lot of covers (although I'm always happy to teach a student a few of their favorite cover songs). I predominately play with my fingers versus using a pick (including electric), and can teach both methods of finger playing and pick playing. I have an extensive theory and harmony background and love to teach students how to read music, play scales (which lead to improvising/soloing), and to play chords in different inversions.
I am happy to have students come to my house in Inman Sq (right on the Somerville/Cambridge line), can travel to students depending on the distance, or use a room at Berklee College of Music where I currently work. I charge $60/hour or $40 for 30 minute lessons.
PS. I also design and make bags and also teach sewing lessons! You can find more info at www.lexistreefort.com
