Hayley's Music Studio

Hayley Raye Murks-Abdikadirova is a multi-instrumentalist and composer in the Greater Boston Area. She is one of Early Music America Magazine's 2020 Grant Recipients, and the 2013 recipient of STRINGS Magazine's Edith Eisler Award for Music Education.

Currently employed at the Harvard Art Museums, Hayley is a senior member of the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra. She recieved her Undergraduate Performance Diploma and Master's of Music in Viola Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College. Hayley has performed diverse programs of solo and chamber repertoire on Viola, Baroque Viola, and Viola d'Amore in New England, Washington D.C., Italy, Germany, and the American South.

My duty as a music educator is to give my students the tools they need to have a successful future with music - however they may define this. I aspire to provide them with a strong technical foundation so that they are capable of learning any piece of music they are inspired to practice and perform. In addition to a solid technique, I aim to contribute to their understanding of all emotional, theoretical, and philosophical aspects of music, so that they may feel strong in their interpretations and perform them with conviction. Beyond my job of enriching their musical capabilities, it is my responsibility to prepare and mentor them throught their life and career decisions, using the best of my current knowledge of the social and marketing aspects of this demanding vocation.

I can not emphasize enough the importance of studying music beyond the notes and technique. It is true that we must all learn the basic concepts of playing a musical instrument, but we should always keep in mind the sole purpose of why are working so hard - to create amazing music!

I teach beginner, intermediate, & advance modern and baroque viola, as well as beginner modern and baroque violin. I also teach beginner composition and tutor music theory.
