Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first assess where the student is at in their playing , ask about their specific goals and help them the best I can to show them the tools they need to become a better guitarist. Whether this means learning sightreading, tablature or other methods I have and expertise in showing students what they need to learn to play better.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been playing guitar for over 15 years. I studied with private instructors for 7 years and attended Emmanuel college in Boston Mass, where I took Music theory classes under Dr. Thomas Schnauber.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I deviate from a standard because every student is different and I try to tailor each lesson to the individual rather than sticking to a system. There is an electronic app I do use for many of my students that helps students learn when I’m not present, and for advanced students I may use Mel Bay books or other resources.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching after college with several requests from friends to learn to play guitar from me. As I garnered more students, things picked up steam and I statted working at the Royal Academy in Shrewsbury.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students that don’t even speak English at age 5 to students who want to learn jazz guitar at age 60. The dichotomy between students may be massive but the hunger to learn music is satisfied by the same means, it just takes a lot of patience to recognize what someone needs to build a skillset and play to that.
