Experience the convenience of music lessons in your own home. Luigi travels to the homes of students throughout the Boston and MetroWest area. He teaches all ages and customizes each lesson to the student's age, ability and interests and is always professional, patient and fun! Lessons are typically 60 minutes in length. He currently has 25 students.
READING MUSIC AND TABS
He stresses proper musical notation but also teaches students to read tablature for songs where the riffs are more easily learned in that system.
Of course, regular practice is necessary to successfully advance. Luigi believes that lessons are a great way to play songs, exercises and assignments in a real way, that is, like you would do when playing with a duo or small group: actually performing! With the support and guidance from Luigi, you will build skills in order to perform on your own or with a band.
ANY STYLE
Luigi Grasso teaches you to play your favorite songs, no matter what style of music you're into. Many students are interested in classic rock songs by artists like Led Zeppelin, Eagles and The Beatles. Others love the music of today's artists, like, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Adele and many more.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
To enjoy playing guitar, you have to develop good habits. For beginners, the first step is being comfortable holding the guitar along with proper right and left hand technique enabling the student to progress with all the fundamental requirements needed to make guitar playing productive.
These students start off with notes of the first string and basic chords. After just a few lessons, they can play simple songs. Playing songs is the goal, so he starts the students off with songs very early, rather than focusing on scales and bland exercises. He teaches students to read music notation and eventually expanding into scales, theory, improvising and composition.
He cares for his students and always makes sure they are progressing in a concrete way.

GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL LESSONS
He specializes in one-on-one lessons that provide individual attention to each student. He also offers group lessons, but he finds that private lessons are more productive. With personal attention from a supportive teacher, students are able to overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.
I love that I can share my music experience with an individual and with some patience and practice, see those results within my students. We often play music as if we were a band, duo. The true music experience comes with playing during weekly lessons with your instructor, in a real way, as if you were performing for an audience. This is my approach. My students see these result and it's one of the more fullfilling aspects of my work.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, it's important to be comfortable with each other. Listening, clearly answering questions, complete openness so the student feels at ease asking questions and getting the answers to questions with full understooding. My goal is to make everything available so the new guitarist can progress at her/his own pace.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Berklee College of Music educated. Lead and been a member of bands working throughout the Boston area. Extensive solo work, acoustic and electric, vocalist. Been teaching privately since 1996. My students have included and currently include children and adults of all ages and various tastes for music.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Please understand that I travel to my students homes, there are fundemantal costs to doing so. My hourly/lesson rate starts at $80.00. Depending on the situation, I can work with a student to best fit their budget.
How did you get started teaching?
It was part of the standard music role of gigging, and teaching. Whatever way to work as a musician. However, teaching is a fine art, there are instructors who only go through the motions and try to get as many students as possible in order to fullfill their own needs.
A great teacher cares for their students, guides them, returns calls, does extra work at home transcribing music students request and generally wants the best outcome for the guitarist he is working with. My students study with me for many years. They see my true involvement with their progress and they feel comfortable knowing I'm there for them.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types. All styles, tastes in music. My youngest has been a 9-year-old and my oldest a 76-year-old and everything in between! All sorts of backgrounds within the Boston and Metro-West of Boston.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
When a student is actually confident enough to go out in front of a crowd and play, and sing with total confidence. That means I've done my job well. This happens with a lot of my students.
Recently, a student told me how fun and relaxing my lessons were, they looked forward to Wednesdays!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
As I do, I offer a free trial lesson to see if the fit is good. I would recommend this and... If a teacher keeps looking at his/her watch during a first lesson -- fired them on the spot! They don't have their best interest in you.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask how the lessons will be detailed, that is, how much time per hour is dedicated to reading music, running through songs, new techniques, questions, and if it's OK to go overtime once in a while in order to get clarity from the session -- this without being charged extra! A student will appreciate some extra minutes knowing that no extra charge will be had...this creates a trust level between student and teacher -- very, very important.
