About

I approach music without regard for any obtuse and scholastic "rules" that I have found to be counterproductive. I take the essentials of Western Music Theory and cut out all the anachronistic, non visual thinking, 1800s nonsense. I strip it down to a small.set of simple formulas which can be built upon like a foundation as you advance into more sophisticated terrain.

There is no mindless guitar gymnastics running up and down scales like a circus monkey and there is no modal sophistry required when learning how to solo over compositions which feature ambigious/shifty/fluid/advanced Key Shifts and Jazzy whatnot.

My unique alternative to traditional music theory is best suited for all players who learn by ear rather than from sheet music. Learning in an organic and always to some degree improvisational manner best develops the skills a musician truly needs to both reinterpret and create their own Art. This approach informs not just how I learn, teach, and play but even more fundamentally how I LISTEN and REACT.

I was raised by a professional rock and roll keyboard player who was himself raised by a professional guitar player in a family full of musicians on BOTH sides. Since birth I have been constantly surrounded by multiple generations of exceptional professional musicians.

I began composing at the age of 12, in 1992 and soon after started learning to play the guitar. I took no lessons. I watched the players all around me. I listened. I read books. I used my own resources to tie together all the details and form my own approach to music which draws as much from the improvisational Jazz approach that Jerry Garcia used in a Rock and Roll context as it does from my father's own unique insights into music theory. It was his ideas regarding how keys/scales were being fundamentally misunderstood and overcomplicated in traditional music theory. With this in mind I analyzed other aspects of fameusic theory and applied the same critical eye toward eliminating all Sophistry and creating a system that is efficient and comprehensive; and which dispenses with all the nonsense that is cluttering up students minds.

I began recording demos with my bandmates in 1994, and performing live in 1996. I wrote and recorded the demos for my first album in 1999. Since then I have composed close to 140 songs. I have experience in professional studios where I have recorded a double LP and two EPe worth finished of material as well as dozens of demos. I also have done session work for other players and myself on vocal, guitars, bass, piano and organ.

I have played hundreds, likely over a thousand Live shows; primarily on Lead Guitar and Lead Vocals but I have also performed on Bass, Keys, and as a harmony vocalist. Over the years I have been in many bands but most notably Apahasia (94-96) Avery Rosevelt (02-04) The Bootleg Profits (06-08) The Roccomofinna All Stars (2014) The Imaginary Friends (2016‐2018) Nate Cozzolino and The Lost Arts (2017‐???)

Everything. Music is what comes most natural to, what is the most fun for me, and something of which I find endless joy in both learning, creating and teaching it.

Frequently asked questions

That varies greatly depending on the students level of advancement, what they are looking to learn, what their personality and way of thinking is... etc... one process does not for all students.  I try to get a feel for who my student is as an artist and tailor my approach to best suit them.

I have been immersed in music and surrounded by professional musicians since birth and continued in the footsteps of my ancestors and have composed, performed, recorded, studied, and given lessons most of my life.  Rock and Roll Bands, Church Choir, Musical Theatre... music is music.

Pricing again varies based on the sophistication level of the student and what they want out of their musical education.  I am very flexible working with people tight on cash.  The working class should not lack a proper musical understanding due to a shortage of money.

When I was a kid my friends wanted to know how to play.  So I showed them.  Thing's progressed with time.

Everything from Beginners all the way to classically trained students who were fascinated by my alternative approach to music theory.
