In my method, teaching songs is far more effective that teaching scales and modes that can bore students quickly. These advanced skills can always be pursued later by a student if he/she desires. Perfect practice is the key. If a student asks me how long it will take to reach certain playing ability levels, I always reply that the answer is inside of THEM.
