About
The Prindle School is committed to inspiring you to prepare and preparing you to inspire. We are a music school in the Pioneer Valley offering private music lessons, classes, and ensembles. Our faculty have a wealth of experience delivering exactly the right program of lessons for each individual client: young children as they begin their music journey, highly dedicated professional musicians, adult learners who hope to bring more joy into their lives, and everything in between. Our owners, Dan and Michelle Prindle, have over 30 years of combined experience in music education. Dan is a Ph.D. candidate in music theory at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and also teaches music theory, ear training, and composition at Williams College and Keene State College. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford and is a Certified Waldorf Early Childhood Educator.
We love watching our students grow as musicians and find true enjoyment in making music. Our goal is to meet every student where they are and give them the experience they want, whether it's just to have fun or to become a serious player.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Working with a new student is a highly individualized task. With all of our new students, we take the time to assess goals and make a tailored, specific plan for each person. We can help students who want to just enjoy music as a hobby or students who want to pursue a professional career and everyone in between.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our owners, Dan and Michelle Prindle are highly qualified. Dan, is a Ph.D. candidate in music theory and holds a M.M. in music theory from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a B.M. in composition from the Berklee College of Music. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford and is a Certified Waldorf Early Childhood Educator.

How did you get started teaching?
Our owner Dan Prindle got started teaching during college. As a music major at Berklee, he was very excited about learning as much as possible about music, but equally excited about sharing that information with others. Teaching music was a perfect opportunity to share that excitement.
What types of students have you worked with?
We've worked with students of all ages and levels of experience. We've had retirees start out as total beginners, young children, experienced professionals, and high school students with dreams of going to music school.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It always helps if students have an idea of their goals. They could give some thought about particular artists or songs that have inspired them to want to play. They could also think about where they see themselves in a year or two - jamming with friends, playing in a recital, or trying out an open mic.
