About

I offer piano lessons at my home studio in West Newton, MA, located within a mile of Franklin Elementary School, F.A. Day Middle School, and the Fessenden School, and two miles from Newton North High School.

I teach students of all ages and levels—from children to adults, beginners through advanced students. Lessons are taught in a comfortable studio equipped with two grand pianos.

I offer two recitals each year, as well as group classes. In addition, my students play for residents of local retirement communities, and are eligible to participate in recitals and competitions of the New England Piano Teachers’ Association, and the Massachusetts Music Teachers’ Association. My students have been awarded prizes in competitions, played in masterclasses for renowned teachers, participated in music festivals, and successfully auditioned for college music programs.

I enjoy teaching students of all ages. My younger students benefit from having a regular weekly lesson at a set time, and their parents’ involvement and support in establishing a practice routine. My older students typically enjoy a flexible schedule which can accommodate their school, work and travel schedules.

Frequently asked questions

My approach encourages the natural development of the student’s musicality and technique.  Ultimately, the goal is not only for the student to learn to play the piano, but to obtain the freedom necessary to express their thoughts and emotions through their music.  This can only happen if there is a well-rounded curriculum, consisting of carefully chosen repertoire customized to the preferences of each student, music theory, listening, and technique.  The repertoire each student learns is drawn primarily from the classical tradition.  Students build a technical foundation through the practice of scales, chords, and arpeggios, and learn to analyze the pieces they are playing.   From the very beginning, I teach students to perform their music expressively, whether they are playing “Three Blind Mice” or Bach’s Three-Part Inventions!

I have taught piano since I was 16 years old!  In addition to my private studio, I have taught at many schools, including Berwick Academy, the University of New Hampshire, and Newton Music Academy.  I am an active member of the New England Piano Teachers’ Association (NEPTA), and the Massachusetts Music Teachers' Association (MMTA), where my students frequently compete and perform.

My career as a performing artist strongly informs my work as a teacher. I appear frequently as a recitalist, chamber musician, and lecturer, performing for audiences of all ages throughout the year.

I earned by B.A. in music at the University of New Hampshire, and my Master of Music degree in piano performance at Boston University where I studied with the late Anthony di Bonaventura.
