What I'm happiest and most proud about is watching someone become a guitarist in the most fun and natural way possible. It really is a shared experience of discovery for both teacher and student. My approach to teaching is focused on the individual and not a regimented theory-based curriculum. One of the things that sets my lessons apart is my ability to teach my students how to compose their own songs. It's a natural progression and is taught if the student would like to go beyond simply playing the guitar and other people's music.
I believe what makes my teaching unique is my open and adaptable style. It's all about personalization, flexibility and most of all joy because without it life loses its meaning.
I always wanted to learn to play the acoustic guitar. I was hesitant because I had never played any instrument. Judd has a comfortable and encouraging way of teaching, blending patience and creativity for your own musical journey. His lessons allowed me to explore my interest, without following a strict curriculum. I totally recommend Judd, music is natural! And fun!
I’m proud to write this very favorable, unbiased review for Judd, my guitar teacher, and his wonderful Music Is Natural approach to learning and truly enjoying guitar playing. I had wanted to learn guitar yet not in the traditional, challenging manner offered by other teachers, but in an enjoyable, non threatening way that would focus on my interests and my strengths. Judd even took the time to go with me, at no charge, to Guitar Center and assist me in purchasing an acoustic guitar. Judd is obviously a very talented musician, terrific songwriter, and accomplished instructor. His unique style of teaching and his positive personality makes learning fun, while focusing on gentle repetition, natural skill building, and my musical interests and goals. I enjoy each lesson so much and have been so pleased with my progress and his Music Is Natural approach that I referred my girlfriend and great niece to him. Judd also is vastly improving my songwriting skills and understanding. I highly recommend Judd to you. I gave myself the gift of Music Is Natural, and it has been one of the best things I’ve ever done, as it is truly the gift that keeps on giving. He made learning guitar less intimidating & easy for me! I struggle with ADHD and he was very accommodating with my pace. His teaching style was exactly what I was looking for, rather than the typical music theory/conventional methods.
Because I teach beginners I start with the basics. The anatomy of the guitar, how to hold the pick, finger exercises to promote strength and flexibility and their first two chords to practice strumming. Every skill set I teach them is a progressive one to bring them to the next level of learning while keeping it loose and fun.
