My name is Jon Roberts, and I am the piano department chair of the South Shore Conservatory (SSC) in Hingham, MA. I am very excited to announce that, in addition to my work at SSC, I am starting an independent piano studio from my home in South Weymouth, Massachusetts.
Learning the piano is an incredibly worthwhile pursuit, but can be very intimidating with a lot of questions along the way for both students and parents. My work guides students and parents so that the journey is not only fun and exciting, but life-changing.
I hold my bachelor's degree, master's degree, and doctorate in piano, and teaching the piano is my higher calling. In connecting with my students' individual needs, interests, and goals, as well as applying the latest research and methodologies in contemporary piano pedagogy, my students learn to make music for a lifetime. Students not only learn music literacy (music reading and theory), but students also engage in the creative process through composition and improvisation, even in the beginning lessons.
The role of community is also vitally important to the process of learning a musical instrument. As such, my students are welcome to participate in one group class per month and perform in 2-3 student recitals per year, all included in tuition. In addition, I make every effort to connect with other studios in the area for larger community events, such as recitals and competitions. My website also serves as a resource to keep motivation and progress moving. I have been teaching for 15 years, and look forward to creating an even bigger impact in the community.
I love being able to pass on this gift of music to other human beings. In addition to just being an indescribable expressive outlet, learning the piano also builds skills that students don't necessarily get in regular school (problem-solving, delay of gratification, etc.) that apply to so many other areas of life.
