About
Hi, I'm Peri from Strongwater Studios.
We offer private lessons in piano, guitar, ukulele, songwriting, violin and viola -- and any combination you can dream of! My speciality is incorporating different instruments and providing an introduction to the foundations of music theory, allowing for students to try different instruments and types of music.
I am a board-certified music therapist and have my master's in mental health counseling, and can provide adapted music lessons for students with disabilities and mental health diagnoses.

Beyond traditional music performance, I also work songwriting, improvisation, music analysis and music for wellness into our lessons! I believe that the BEST part about music is using it for creativity, self-expression, emotional regulation and to support developmental goals.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Peri Strongwater MT-BC is a music therapist, music teacher, early childhood educator, music practitioner, songwriter and organization enthusiast. She received her BA from Skidmore College in 2011 as a double major in music and psychology and earned her Masters in Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Music Therapy in 2018.
Peri's musical accomplishments include producing film scores, writing several albums worth of singer-songwriter songs, and a composing number of classical concert pieces. She has worked at a college music department, a concert hall, a non-for-profit music organization, a recording studio and on an HBO show soundtrack. She has also played in numerous orchestras and chamber groups.

What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught individual private music lessons to children as young as 3 years old and as old as 35 years old. I facilitate an early childhood music program called DoReMe&You for babies, toddlers and their families and caregivers. Music Therapy client populations include adolescents with trauma and seniors living with dementia, and I am currently contracted at a local hospital providing music therapy services on an inpatient psychiatric unit.
