About this pro

At M. Austin's Music Lessons, I believe that open communication builds trust between families and private instructors. I plan to get to know your child on a personal level to make sure each lesson we have together builds on their unique talents and skills. Every lesson will build on the previous knowledge we have established in the prior lessons so your child's musical abilities grow each week.

I will have a B.M. in Music Education from Syracuse University after I graduate in May 2020. During my student teaching at Syracuse, I gave lessons to students ages 8-14 in all Concert Band instruments. My main instrument is the oboe, but I have training giving instruction on all instruments!

Maddy is an excellent teacher. She is patient and encouraging, yet thorough and focused. She always gives good constructive feedback on how to improve my sound quality. I highly recommend and have told many of my friends who are interested in learning an instrument about her!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

When working with a new student, I would love to have a meeting with the student and the guardians so we can all discuss the student's goals for private lessons!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I will have a B.M. in Music Education from Syracuse University after graduation in May 2020. I have training teaching all instruments, including all Concert Band and Orchestra instruments in addition to vocals.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Lessons that take place in my studio will be $20 an hour and lessons that occur in students' homes will be $25 an hour.

How did you get started teaching?

I began working in schools when I was fourteen and have been studying music since I was six years old. Learning music is an essential part of all students' education and can truly impact their experiences in school. Taking private lessons is an opportunity for students to truly experience all the benefits music has to offer.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked will students from the ages four to twenty-six. I have worked will all populations of learners. I have taught music to students ages eight to twenty-six and I have taught English and math skills to students ages four to thirteen. I have taught music at a post-secondary institution for students with learning disabilities.
