Alexia Maree- Theatre Artist

​​Acting! Dance! Music! Podcasting!— We can use these crafts to hold a mirror to ourselves and our environment. In my lessons, we'll work to celebrate, challenge, and spark curiosity about what we see in the reflection. Through mastering the art of listening and responding, we can better listen and respond to the dynamics of the world around us.

As a child, Alexia loved school, but especially loved leaving early to rehearse at the Kennedy Center under the masterful wings of artists such as Debbie Allen and Arthur Mitchell. By the time she turned 16, Alexia had performed as a dancer, singer and actor at the Lincoln Theater, at the Kennedy Center and on NFL turf at FedEx Field.

When she entered the honors college and BFA musical theatre program at Howard University,, Alexia was determined to hone her skills as a stage and screen actor, dancer, singer, choreographer and teacher. During her college years, she worked on her school’s main-stage, in short film projects, and in DC area projects.

She also fueled and sharpened her gift for teaching as an instructor at The Children's Theatre Workshop and The Performing Arts Training Studio. After graduating magna cum laude from her beloved alma mater, Alexia worked as a teaching artist at the Smithsonian Institute.​

In 2017, Alexia joined the South Korean tour of Dreamgirls. Directly after, she relocated to New York City, a place that offered her brilliant opportunities to perform and to learn. In 2020, she started You Good, Sis? Podcast, which featured many esteemed performers and changemakers. She recently collaborated with her cousin (and friend) to start the Now That We’re Adults Podcast! Alexia is impassioned and determined to pursue her mission: using theatre, television and film as mediums to hold a mirror to society. To celebrate, challenge, and spark curiosity about what we see in the reflection.

I am passionate about playing and learning. Through storytelling, we develop narratives about our global community— stories of love, loss, growth, joy and understanding. As a teaching artist, I aim to inspire others to do the same!
