About

My name is Earle Wood and I give private guitar lessons to people of all ages in the Anne Arundel, Fort Meade and Annapolis area. If you’re a beginner, I can help you get started and teach you how to play the songs you love. If you’ve already been playing guitar a bit but want to hone your skills, I can do that too!

I’m here to help you become a better guitar player. My studio is centrally located in Crownsville, a town in central Anne Arundel County. I serve the areas around Severn, Glen Burnie, Severna Park, Annapolis, Anne Arundel and Fort Meade. I have a passion for teaching guitar lessons using a student-centered approach.

What does “student-centered” mean? It means that we will work together to define your goals as a musician and I will develop a customized guitar lesson plan to help you reach those goals. We’ll use real songs as the basis for your guitar lessons and exercises for learning techniques and theories.

I give guitar lessons full-time. I don’t have gigs or a second jobs that will pull my attention away from you. I am 100% committed to providing you with quality guitar lessons. I’m available during the week between our lessons to help in any way that you need.

The key to my approach is that it is all about you. You won’t be getting cookie-cutter guitar lessons out of a book.Your guitar lessons are tailored to you.

I create these guitar lessons using my background of more than 15 years of playing experience. I play bothacoustic and electric guitar in rock, blues, pop, R&B and folk styles. I have performed live and written my own music. I hold a Master’s Certificate in Guitar from Berklee Music, a division of the Berklee College of Music.

I also have experience working with children in daycare and sports settings. I studied elementary education at the University of Maryland, College Park.

If you’re looking for a teacher who is low on ego but high on enthusiasm, then you’ve come to the right place.

I think of myself as a teacher first and a guitar player second. I love to share my passion for music and the fun of guitar playing with my students. It is gratifying to watch my students grow.

Earle has taught my now 12-year-old and 11-year-old for a few years. He caters song selection to their preferences (one’s a little bit country, the other one’s a bit rock n roll), but still focuses on technique and theory so they can develop a solid musical foundation. Playing guitar is a lifetime thing, and Earle is helping make that happen for my kids, with (lots of) patience, constant positivity and outstanding skill. We also like that we can do lessons by Skype when visiting his studio doesn’t work for us. Highly recommend!

I would like to confirm all the compliments Earle has received in these posts and offer my own. I have played on and off for many years, unfortunately more off than on. At 56, I decided I didn’t want to quit anymore and regret it more than I do now. I consider myself lucky to have found Earle and have him as a guitar/music teacher. Instruction for an adult differs from younger students and Earle’s willingness to listen, and ability to adapt to my needs impressed me very much. Over the years I have had several guitar teachers. I am currently not taking lessons but I am playing and that is thanks to Earle. I can also say without a doubt if I can start lessons again, my only call will be to Earle. He has made me a better player and made me want to be a student.

    Frequently asked questions

I talk with the student to learn his goals and develop a lesson plan that will help him meet his needs. Oh, and we'll have fun too!

I have a Masters Certificate from Berklee College of Music. I also have been teaching full time since 2011.

I have slots open during the week as well as limited slots on Saturdays. We’ll meet at my home studio in Crownsville to have our lesson. At the conclusion of each lesson, I will give you exercises that will keep your playing sharp until the next session.

So what about the cost? Here’s the breakdown:

Weekly lessons at my studio or online:
30-minute lessons – $35 per lesson, typically $140 per month.*
45-minute lessons – $40 per lesson, typically $160 per month.*

*Lessons are given on a weekly basis. The monthly cost assumes a typical month with four lessons. Occasionally, however, there will be five lessons in a month.

You don’t have to commit right away. I offer a $40 introductory lesson so that you can meet me before making a commitment. The introductory lesson is approximately 30 minutes long.

I accept cash or checks, credit cards or you can pay with PayPal.

I think it all goes back to being a big brother to a younger brother and sister. I caught the teaching bug when I was kid when I had opportunities to show my siblings how to do things.

Since then, I was an Elementary Education major at University of Maryland and I've worked at daycare for school-aged children. I started teaching guitar when I answered a Craigslist ad in 2009 and I've been helping people learn to play ever since.

All ages. Men, women, boys and girls. Everyone can, and should, learn how to rock!

Ask the teacher about his current student load. You want to make sure that the teacher is busy and in high demand. If he isn't, that's an indicator that he's not very good or that teaching isn't his top priority.
