Who is Earl Carter?

With 50 years of music industry experience, Earl has performed with quite a few well known artists including many grammy-nominated and award winning celebrities. His performance and recording resume includes artists such as Freddie Jackson, Regina Belle, Mya, Syleena Johnson, Coolio, E.U., Trouble Funk, Tony Terry, Angela Bofill, Alyson Williams, Marion Meadows, Nick Colionne, Mike Phillips, Gerald Veasley, Michael Lington, Bobby Lyle, Marcus Johnson, Bob Baldwin, Bobby Humphrey, Miles Jaye, Elan Trotman, Pamela Williams, Carolyn Malachi and many others. In addition, he has released ten contemporary jazz recording projects and worked as the musical director for overseas projects, television shows and more. His influences are: Jimi Hendrix, Stanley Clarke, Grover Washington Jr., Carlos Santana, Marcus Miller, Charlie Parker, George Benson, Victor Wooten, Gerald Albright, Wes Montgomery and many other great musicians.

Why does he teach?

After working many years in Corporate America, Earl is now a full-time musician who has traveled the world, produced national and local artists, owns an independent record label and works with new clients on a regular basis. His goal is to share as much knowledge as possible with aspiring musicians. He is presently offering lessons in acoustic, electric and bass guitar.

How is his teaching method unique?

Since every client has a unique talent, each individual's training is based on his/her personal goals. The student will learn how to think outside of the box in order to accomplish their goals.

Most of his coaching sessions and music lessons have taken place at his Greenbelt Maryland studio however he is now offering online sessions. These sessions range from learning how to become a skillful musician in multiple genres to information on how to become a full-time musician as well as mastering techniques in lead guitar, rhythm guitar, finger-style performance, chord inversions, improvisation, jamming skills, site reading, ear training, music theory, scales & exercises, song writing, recording & production, guidance in equipment selection and more...

Beginners will need to have their own instrument and accessories (required for practice). Earl works with each individual based on his/her personal goals and believes that every client has a unique gift.

Does he have a standard pricing system?

Yes. $75 per one hour session.

What types of clients has he worked with?

Earl has worked with beginner, intermediate and advanced musicians in multiple genres but now specializes in teaching beginners.

What styles of music are covered?

Current genres offered are Jazz, Christian, R&B, Reggae, Blues, Alternative and Pop. Clients can focus on one or two styles while developing the basic skills needed to play others as well.

What age groups does he work with?

Ages eight years old to adult.

What advice would Earl give a client looking to hire a coach or teacher in his area of expertise?

Becoming a fluent musician requires practice. Becoming a successful full-time musician takes dedication. Remember, the more you practice, the better you’ll get. Therefore, how quickly you excel is ultimately up to you.

Know what you want to accomplish from taking lessons and make sure that you are both on the same page before selecting a new teacher.
