My teaching approach: First it has to be fun and interesting, not just a boring method book one, two or three experience. I have done this long enough to know how to get people excited about making a commitment to the guitar and give you the things that will get you playing sooner then later. My influences are: Everything from surf guitar, country, classic rock & blues. I love jazz guitar and classical as well. So many nice players I enjoy, just too many to list. Think of playing the guitar as a buffet of food with lots of good things to try. My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's home studio. Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours: Monday thru Fridays appointment only. I also do some Saturday morning teaching but not every week for Saturdays. I play weddings and other performance gigs that tie up that day. Guitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Fingerstyle, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Guidance In Equipment Selection. Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: Depends on their level so a beginner is much different from someone who already has some skills. I do assess how much they know and what they are looking to do with their goals. From that point I move them in a direction that will get them there from my 30 plus years of teaching experience. The qualities I look for in an ideal student : The ideal student is one that does practice every day and understands that they have to do the work to improve.
First I love the guitar but also enjoy meeting new people all the time. I love seeing students improve and the joy they get from learning to play music on the guitar.
Tom has been great teacher, giving shared lessons to myself and to my daughter, supporting two sets of very diverse interests. He's been fantastic about supporting the ever changing schedule mandated by travel sports seasons. He's supported my daughter's interest in singing as well as guitar and even helped us record a youtube video. Tom is knowledgeable, supportive and friendly. I highly recommend him.
I'm an older, first time guitar student and I have the pleasure of being taught by Tom Lawrence. His knowledge, experience and enthusiasm as a professional is quite impressive. Immediately, Tom put me at ease. My lessons are always fun and comfortable. He takes the time to find out what I'm interested in learning, and caters my lessons to reach that goal. In doing so, he not only teaches how to, but also explains why. Rates are reasonable, and Tom works with my schedule as much as possible. If I have a question between lessons, he always responds in a timely manner. It's quite clear that Tom takes great pride and pleasure in all of his students and I always look forward to my weekly lessons. An added bonus is being able to hear Tom perform when he plays a public gig! My only regret is not having guitar lessons with Tom Lawrence when I was younger.
I look forward to my lesson with Tom Lawrence every week. He knows the Guitar and how to adapt it to any song or playing style. Beginners and experienced players will learn new skills, and he makes it fun! Get signed up today to start your lessons.
I look forward to my lesson early week with Tom Lawrence. His ability to teach not only guitar, but Music as a whole is by far the best in town. Have more fun now that I can play! Thank You Tom!
