I have performed and taught a variety of styles including rock, blues, and country among others. I'm particularly fond of early acoustic blues and slide guitar. I have been teaching steadily around the Metro Detroit area for 15 years at a number of studios including Axis Music Academy in Roseville and Southfield and Anderson Music in Farmington Hills among others. I have taught students from ages nine to ninety and have enjoyed working with them all.
I like helping someone learn a song that they've always wanted to play. I know what it's like to feel that sense of accomplishment when you can finally play something that you love. It's a great feeling and I like sharing that with my students.
John was a fantastic teacher, I learned a lot of interesting things I wouldn't have learned on my own. Thank you John! - Nasser
John is very patient and encouraging. Took lessons about 11 years ago and nothing was really explained, and I didn't learn very much. John answers my questions.
Every student is unique and has different goals and expectations. For new students I teach them the basic skills needed to play and read and then move to their individual musical interests. Adults students usually have something particular in mind and my goal with them is getting them to play what they want to play as quickly as possible. For younger students I introduce them to a variety of styles and techniques that will allow them to pursue and master any musical genre.
I started playing in rock and roll bands in junior high and currently perform in a band that plays original and roots/blues music. I studied classical guitar for 2 years and attended master classes at the University of Miami. Early acoustic blues is one of my areas of interest and I have performed and taught songs by artists such as Mississippi John Hurt and Robert Johnson among others. I have been teaching steadily around the Metro Detroit area for the past 15 years in a number of studios as well as out of my home.
I charge $20 per half hour for lessons in my home and $60 per hour for lessons in your home.
I took some classical guitar lessons in high school and when my instructor went on vacation for two weeks he asked me to sub for him.
I have worked with students as young as 7 (I don't recommend starting younger than this), and as old as 90. I have also prepared students to audition for admission to Wayne State's music school. I have taught blues, rock, classical and country as well as a variety of fingerpicking styles.
