Michael's Piano Studio
About
My name is Michael, and I am a classically-trained pianist who teaches piano in northern West Bloomfield, Commerce, and surrounding locations. I have over two decades of piano teaching experience, and I would describe myself as a patient, caring, and knowledgeable instructor!
While I primarily travel to students' homes, I also teach in my studio and offer remote lessons through platforms such as FaceTime or Zoom.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in music with a minor in psychology from Oakland University. While a music student, I studied piano primarily with Flavio Varani, Erica Schroth, and Mary Siciliano. Each of these instructors provided me with a different approach toward piano playing, and this in turn enabled me to be a better piano teacher as I am aware of different ways of conveying concepts/addressing technical issues.
Regarding lesson format, for beginners, I typically focus on reading music and keyboard technique. As the student advances, I like to introduce music theory concepts such as scale construction, key signatures, chord building, and creative aspects of music such as arranging, playing by ear, and songwriting (if the student expresses an interest).
Vision for the student: to experience the pleasure of making music regardless of skill level!
