I like to see the light bulb turn on when students discover that they can actually learn how to play the guitar and play it well.
I bring my guitar to the lesson and can demonstrate what I'm trying to teach. Also, I have multiple guitars so the student can play my guitars just to see the difference between their guitar and my guitars. I can also bring a small amp so if the student has and acoustic / electric, they can hear what it sounds like when playing with an amp.

If you purchase the song storage app I recommend for your Kindle or iPad or phone, etc., I will give you one time access to my collection of 580 songs (which include the song lyrics and playlists) that I have in my app. Once I do the sync to your device, you will have all my current songs from the 50's to today with all genres (Pop, Rock, Country, Metal). Keep in mind that each song had to be edited and then the timing had to be tweaked so I can play along with the song. It's taken me over 4 years to get all those songs in the app and get them edited so the scroll timing is correct so you can play along. The app costs $11.99 on Amazon (10/2022) for the Kindle and the price is pretty much the same for each device. I have it on my iPhone and Kindle. Once you have it on your devices, you can sync all the songs to that device. Let me clear up one thing though; the app only contains the song lyrics and chords; NOT the songs. You have to have the actual songs on your computer or phone. I can show you free apps that will allow you to get the songs you don't have and then get them on your computer. It's a rather complicated process but if you don't understand, I can give you written instructions on what I'm talking about. This knowledge alone is worth at least two lessons! My point is that I give a lot more value than most instructors.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
A student must feel comfortable with me. We need to meet and talk. If you don't feel comfortable, we can stop right away and not continue. I will cover the basics of an Acoustic guitar and go from there. The hardest hurdle for any new guitar player is to get over the pain of building their finger callouses up. Since I haven't been playing for 30 years, I can relate to their fears of learning. Hey! If I learned, you can learn too!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been around music all my life. When I was very young, I took lesson on the piano and cello but I found my niche with the cornet. I was actually pulled into the Junior High School concert band when I was in 6th grade. I played throughout High School and was going to go into music in college but then I found out about computers and went that route instead. I bought a guitar over 30 years ago and it sat in the box. In the summer of 2017, a friend encouraged me to learn the guitar while he learned the piano. I took him up on the bet and learned guitar. I play along with over 550 songs now and own both acoustic and electric guitars but my focus for teaching is on the Acoustic.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing will vary based on where I have to travel for the lesson. Average price would be around $40 per HOUR lesson and that includes travel to your home within 8 miles of Troy, Michigan. Most lessons average an hour. Anything more than an hour would be too much on a new student.
